Breast augmentation, also known as augmentation mammoplasty, is a surgical procedure which enhances both the size and shape of a woman’s breast. It is performed to enlarge small breasts, undeveloped breasts, or breasts that have decreased in size after pregnancy. The procedure is accomplished by surgically inserting an implant behind the breast tissue and underneath the chest wall muscle to create a fuller appearance. Often, breast augmentation may be combined with other procedures, such as breast lift, to achieve the desired results.
